Register for 2022 Kurabu Summer Camp

Oya No Kai’s Japanese summer camp, Kurabu, is open for registration! We are excited to be back in person with five weeks to choose from June 27-July 29.

Kurabu is a Japanese summer day camp for children who are entering kindergarten through sixth grade in fall 2022 and are currently in a Japanese immersion program or who speak Japanese at home Kurabu is designed to offer children a bi-lingual summer camp experience that is rewarding, fun and reinforces their Japanese language skills.
WHO WE SERVE: Kurabu serves Japanese and non-Japanese children from the Portland Metro Region. All of our staff and volunteers have either studied Japanese, are bi-lingual or native speakers, and come to us from local and Japanese schools, universities and the community. The Japanese Dual Language Immersion Program interns act as lead teachers each week.
WHAT TO EXPECT: A typical week at Kurabu would include enrichment class such as cooking, art, music, Japanese language, and an end-of-week celebration for students and families.
LOCATION: Mt. Tabor Middle School, 5800 SE Ash St. Portland, OR 97215
TIME: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
COST: $275/week for 5-day week, $220/week for 4-day week. Please note: Spot is not guaranteed until paid in full.
Week 1: Arts & Culture, $275
Dates: June 27 – July 1, 2022

Week 2: Matsuri–Japanese Festival, $220
Dates: July 5 – July 8, 2022
Explore how Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) is celebrated in Japan and create our own version of fun MATSURI together!
Week 3: Japanese School Experience, $275
Dates: July 11 – July 15, 2022
Experience what it is like to be a Japanese elementary school student. Explore unique activities and fun events!
Week 4: Arts & Culture, $275
Dates: July 18 – July 22, 2022
Experience different types of Japanese arts and culture with hands-on activities!
Week 5: Japanese School Experience, $275
Dates: July 25 – July 29, 2022
Experience what it is like to be a Japanese elementary school student. Explore unique activities and fun events!
Financial assistance (50% off one week of Kurabu) is provided for students whose families meet the Federal Income Guidelines for Free and Reduced Lunch. Guidelines can be found here. For assistance please contact us kurabu@oyanokai.org
