Welcome, Nanto middle school students!

Welcome, Nanto middle school students!

After a 4 year pandemic-generated break, we are so excited to welcome back our exchange with Nanto-shi middle schools from October 25-November 1. This annual visit began nearly 20 years ago and is an anchor for 8th grade activities and curriculum in October and November. It is a central part of our students’ studies in Japanese this fall and brings significant purpose and authenticity to their work, especially as they prepare for the Japan Research Residency in April 2024.

We will hold a welcome ceremony for the 26 middle school students, 4 chaperones, and trip lead Mr. Saino on the afternoon of October 25 at Mt. Tabor Middle School. While attending school at Mt. Tabor for the next week, our visitors will take part in a special Spirit Week, dance their hearts out at Tabor’s first school dance, explore Portland with their host families, and load up on candy for an old-fashioned American Halloween. If you see them in the halls or around town, please take a moment to say hello and welcome!

Many thanks to the Tabor families who are providing unforgettable homestay experiences for our new friends from Nanto!
