Cruz Miller Memorial Scholarship

2018 College Scholarship Announcement

Oya No Kai would like to announce that applications are now being accepted for The Oya No Kai Cruz Miller Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship honors students completing their K-12 Japanese immersion education and continuing on to college in fall 2018 with a plan to study Japanese language or study abroad in Japan. For 2018 we are awarding two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1000 each.

This scholarship is named for a JMP student, Cruz Miller, who tragically passed away in 2014 while in the 8th grade.  Cruz deeply valued and enjoyed Japanese language and loved the JMP community. The graduating students of 2018 are Cruz’s classmates, and Oya No Kai is providing this scholarship to encourage graduates to think about how Japanese language, culture, and community can continue to be part of their lives after high school.

This year we have a very compressed timeline for applications. The application process will be open from today until May 20th, 2108.  Applicants can find out more scholarship information and submit their application online at:

The scholarship recipients will be announced to the public at the Japanese Immersion Program Completion Ceremony at Grant HS Library, May 31st 7:00 PM with recipient notification on or before May 30th, 2018.
