From the Artist:
This design incorporates sakura blossoms, representing renewal and regrowth. The teacup was inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by filling in the cracks with gold. I feel like this relates a lot to the themes of regrowth and coming back stronger than before. Instead of trying to hide the cracks, kintsugi emphasizes imperfections and acknowledges them as a part of the pottery’s history – even though the pandemic hit everyone hard and changed some things for good, we can recover and rebuild stronger. I added the rabbit in because I felt like something was missing and 2023 will be the Year of the Rabbit!– Linna Hopper, JDLI 11th grader at Grant High School
